A Dutch court has declared the yacht builder Moonen Yachts bankrupt, according to multiple reports. The decision has been made just two weeks after Moonen had announced they had been about to close a deal with a new investor.

Some of the biggest names in the superyacht industry have vowed to reduce their carbon footprint in support of the non-profit organisation, Water Revolution Foundation.
So far Benetti, Feadship, Heesen, Lürssen, Abeking & Rasmussen, Alexseal, Amels and Damen, MB92 and Rybovich have signed up to help reduce the carbon footprint of the superyacht industry.
Andrea Frabetti has taken over as Sunseeker International CEO following the resignation of Christian Marti.

Informa worked in partnership with St Katharine Docks and British Marine to organise the event, which was due to take place from 8th to 12th May in Central London.
According to Informa, postponing the event was crucial to guarantee that the yacht show meets the high standards expected of the event and to ensure it gains maximum involvement from the yachting industry’s numerous stakeholders.
Previously known as the London On Water Boat Show, the yachting event endured a complete rebrand in December 2018 to focus on the high-end of the marine and luxury goods market.

Dutch shipyard Feadship is set to completely rebuild 42-metre (138-foot) classic motoryacht Istros. Built in 1954 by Amsterdam yard De Vries Lentsch and previously regarded as one of the largest superyachts to be built in the Netherlands, the yacht is now undergoing a total refit at Feadship’s facility.
Istros, meaning ‘inspiration’, featured an advanced radar system and on-board telephone, which was a rarity at the time.
H2 Yacht Design and Laurent Giles Naval Architects made a first attempt to restore the yacht in 2013, but the project was rejected due to lack of funding.
Under new ownership, the current rebuild project began last year with the removal of the superstructure and reconditioning of the hull at a shipyard in Malta. The yacht has since arrived back in the Netherlands.
Mataró Marina Barcelona has hosted its 1st Refit Conference under the organisation of the Barcelona Clúster Nàutic, Daevi and Varador 2000.

Oceanco’s recently delivered 109-meter motoryacht, Bravo Eugenia, won the accolade in the category Technology and Innovation at the Yacht Club of Monaco’s awards.

Wärtsilä has successfully tested its remote guidance service, so claiming to have created ‘an entirely new dimension in vessel repair and maintenance operations’.
Through real-time communication using voice-controlled Augmented Reality (AR) wearables and remote guidance software, ship crew members, field service engineers and shipyard personnel can communicate with shore-based experts anywhere in the world.
The tests were carried out onboard the Huckleberry Finn, a RoRo ferry operated by TT-Lines, while sailing between Trelleborg, Sweden and Travemünde, Germany.
Simulated remote guidance service situations were carried out on the ship’s navigation equipment on the bridge and on the shaft line seals and bearings in the engine room.
Fairline Yachts has opened a new commercial shipyard facility in Hythe, Southampton.
The shipyard is able to accommodate vessels of up to 950 tonnes and 11.5m beam, which can be removed from the water via the slipway and stored undercover.
The site has more than 10,000sqm of covered working halls with workspace for crew or contractors to carry out required works.
“Opening this new facility is an exciting step for Fairline Yachts,” said Fairline Yachts commercial manager, Robert Hammond.
The shipyard is also capable of berthing vessels from 10m to 100m.
The move follows on from Fairline CEO David Tydemann admitting boatbuilding has been slower than desired at Hythe, largely due to problems recruiting the workforce resulting in a production challenge.
The IMO Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment held its 6th Session from 4 to 8 March 2019. The meeting focused on improvements in ventilation conditions of survival craft that will be achieved by finalising draft amendments to the LSA Code on ventilation requirements for survival craft and draft amendments to the ‘Revised recommendation on testing of life-saving appliances’.
Mainly, the Sub-Committee discussed the draft amendments to the LSA Code, relating to ventilation requirements of totally enclosed lifeboats.
In the meantime, the meeting made progress in developing draft amendments to the revised recommendation on testing of life-saving appliances regarding the ventilation of survival craft, aiming to ensure a habitable environment is maintained in such survival craft.
Oceanco’s 106.7m Black Pearl won top honours at the 2019 Boat International Design & Innovation Awards that took place on the 27th of January in Cortina. This unique and complex vessel took home the award for “Best Naval Architecture for Sailing Yachts.”
Black Pearl, the largest sailing yacht in the world, is a veritable tour de force, incorporating high tech design, an updated state-of-the art DynaRig sailing system, single level engine room, a hybrid propulsion installation and high capacity battery bank allowing for a regeneration mode when under sail. Her hull design is created with a unique wave-piercing bow that is both aesthetically appealing and fuel-efficient. Naval Architecture is by Dykstra Naval Architects and Lateral Naval Architects assisted with systems engineering and weight management as well as elements of structural and general engineering.
Hakvoort Shipyard in Monnickdam, Holland, has successfully launched the yard’s largest project to date. The 63.72-metre explorer yacht SCOUT was designed by renowned British design studio and H2 Yacht Design.
Known as Project Brio during the build, the highly-anticipated project will cruise as SCOUT upon delivery to her experienced owners in Spring 2019.
Measuring 63.72-metres with a beam of 11.6 metres and a draft of 3.25 metres, SCOUT emerged from the Hakvoort shed in Monnickendam in North Holland on 1st December before being towed to Amsterdam for final completion. Amongst the works that will be completed in the Dutch capital is the installation of her mast, crow’s nest, radars, stabilizers and propellers.
