The Paris MoU is emphasising the importance of fire door compliance after a recent Focused Inspection Campaign (FIC) recorded a 13.9% non-compliance rate.
As part of an ongoing investigation into possible efficiency improvements regarding inspection campaigns, the member authorities of the Paris MoU held an unannounced FIC on fire doors from 1 to 28 July this year.
The findings of this FIC raised concerns for the Paris MoU, as 13.9% of non-compliance was recorded. Of this 13.9%, 30% was considered to be a lack of implementation of the ISM Code.
Now, the Paris MoU would like to emphasise again the importance of compliance on this specific subject and would like to call on the industry to take the appropriate measures.
This FIC followed on from the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Fire Safety held from 1 September to 30 November last year.
The results from this CIC were shared with the industry. Overall, compliance appeared to be satisfactory, however the result was less favourable on two specific topics: good working condition of fire doors (9.3% non-compliance) and fire drills (9.2% non-compliance). In the press release issued at the time, the Paris MoU indicated that it expected the industry to give these issues the necessary attention.
