Once again, the expanded IIMS Large Yacht & Small Craft Working Group has planned a two day training event to coincide with the Palma Superyacht Show, which will take place on 27/28 April 2017 mostly in and around the Puerto de Palma area.
This event has proved popular in recent years, not just with Palma based surveyors, but it has drawn members from all over Europe and further afield too. Non IIMS members are most welcome to come and join too. The IIMS team has worked hard to attract a great speaker line up and programme with what look like being interesting and informative presentations over the two days. Delegates will also have some time to walk the Palma Superyacht Show on the first day of opening (Friday 28 April).
Day one, Thursday 27 April, starts at 09.00 prompt with short classroom based training delivered by Jon Sharland of Tritex NDT about how thickness gauges work. This will be followed by some practical testing of the Tritex gauges in the neighbouring yard on steel and GRP hulls. After coffee, the group will reconvene in the classroom, which is situated adjacent to the Palma Superyacht Show to hear from Rory Marshall, an expert in the area of superyacht coatings, as he speaks about this essential and complex subject. Rory is one of the lead tutors on the Registered Marine Coatings Inspectors course run by IIMS. Gary Miller (subject to be confirmed) will close the morning session. After lunch nearby, the group will meet at The Global Yachting Group workshops, who will be our hosts for the afternoon session, before transferring to their facility by Palma Airport. Delegates will walk the facilities and The Global Yachting Group will speak about their work and facilities.
On return to Palma town centre, those who wish to participate in a group dinner will have time to head back to their hotel before meeting at a nearby restaurant.
Come and make a leisurely start to the second morning of the event. Grab a coffee and do a little networking as Mike Schwarz and John Excell welcome you for an informal gathering inside the show before the event opens. Mike will speak about the current activities IIMS is involved with in what has been a busy start to 2017 for the head office team. After this session, delegates are offered the opportunity to walk and enjoy the show courtesy of complimentary tickets from IIMS. The group will reconvene at the classroom once more at 13.45. Mike Schwarz will give a short presentation on a range of business management skills. He will be followed by Capt Phil Duffy, who will present ‘Superyacht Sea Trials’. The two day event will be concluded by John Excell. In his presentation, John will offer refresher tips and advice about the noble and essential art of report writing.

The cost of attending this two day training event is 250 euros (275 euros for non IIMS members). One day only is priced at 150 euros (160 euros for non members). Attendance at this event is worth 5 CPD points for members.
