The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year having been founded in 1991. From humble beginnings, the organisation has grown steadily to become the leading, worldwide body for professional marine surveyors of all disciplines and is now respected as such globally. International Institute of Marine Surveying launches new Professional Qualifications
Recently the IIMS was notified by Pearson Edexcel, the external awarding body of the current IIMS HNC and HND in marine surveying qualifications, that they intended to stop supporting specialist, customised course providers such as ours. We were not alone in receiving this startling news, taken by Pearson for reasons known only to them. The final intake for students wishing to gain an HNC/HND is mid October. The scheme will then close for new student registrations, but will remain open for those already registered to complete their studies by 31 October 2018. View full press release.
IIMS launches self help handy guide publishing programme
The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) has launched a series of self help handy guides under the title ‘What a marine surveyor needs to know about’. The guides are available in a compact and handy A5 size. The series is launched initially with four titles, but over the next year, it is expected to expand to cover over thirty different subjects and topics. View full press release.
Further Registered Marine Coatings Inspectors qualify in the superyacht sector
With the completion of the recent Registered Marine Coatings Inspectors (RMCI) course at Hamburg, an additional seven students passed the examination and have achieved the RMCI qualification. This brings the total of qualified RMCI’s to more than forty since the programme in the superyacht sector began at the end of last year. AMSBC agrees amalgamation with IIMS to form IIMS Canada
At a recent meeting of the International Institute of Marine Surveying’s (IIMS) management board in Portchester UK, it was unanimously agreed to accept the proposal from the Association of Marine Surveyors of British Columbia (AMSBC) to amalgamate and form IIMS BC, the British Columbia chapter of IIMS Canada. The realisation of IIMS BC and IIMS Canada is the result of much due diligence work behind the scenes. The formation of IIMS Canada brings the number of IIMS regional branches to six, the others being Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and UAE. View full press release.
Registered Marine Coatings Inspectors course and qualification announces 2015 dates
RMCI has released dates for its courses for 2015. After the first course in Amsterdam from 6-10 December,
the following dates and locations have been organised.
- RMCI Course Portsmouth: 19-23 January 2015
- RMCI Course Genoa: 9-13 March 2015
- RMCI Course Hamburg: 27 April to 1 May 2015
International Institute of Marine Surveying launches new web site
The International Institute of Marine Surveying has launched its new web site, which can be viewed at www.iims.org.uk. The site, which took five months to develop and construct, represents something of a departure
from the previous one. Built in WordPress, the site has a contemporary feel to it, is aesthetically pleasing, clean and simple to navigate around, which were key specification requirements. View full press release.

IIMS launches Marine Surveying Academy
The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) unanimously accepted the proposal to launch the Marine Surveying Academy (MSA) at its March meeting. Marine Surveying Academy Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of IIMS
