Please note that the date for the Spring IIMS Small Craft Working Group has changed from the one previously published on 17 May to 25 May to accommodate this rare training opportunity.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has invited the IIMS Small Craft Working Group to join their Annual Surveyors Conference for a joint training day on Wednesday 25 May at their head office and facility in Poole, Dorset, for what promises to be an exceptional day. This provides an excellent opportunity for surveyors to network with others and share ideas and thoughts with a different group of surveyors too.

The day itself will be split into two distinct halves.

Morning Session
10.00 IIMS members meet at RNLI facility
10.15 Tour of the RNLI facility for IIMS members
12.30 Tour complete

About the tour
RNLI pledged to provide every all-weather lifeboat crew with a 25 knot lifeboat by 2019. This means that the RNLI will require at least 50 new Shannon class lifeboats in the next phase of saving lives at sea. RNLI is building six all-weather lifeboats every year, as well as maintaining their existing fleet. To achieve this plan, RNLI constructed an All-weather Lifeboat Centre (ALC) in Poole, Dorset. The facility brings every stage of the lifeboat building process under one roof, ensuring that the RNLI is fully equipped to build the next generation of lifeboats.
